Monday Meditation

What should we pray for each other?

We've been looking at examples from the Apostle Paul for things we can pray for each other. Having worked through the prayers he mentions in his letter to the church in Ephesus, we're now going to look at Colossians.

Colossians 1:9-12

"We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light."

When we read it like that, we can miss the flow of what Paul is saying.

So with a couple of comments and a different layout, see if this helps:

What does Paul pray?

We continually ask God

to fill you with the knowledge of his will

through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,

Why does he pray this? What does he want the prayer to result in?

so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord

and please him in every way:

What will that look like?

bearing fruit in every good work,

growing in the knowledge of God,

being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might,

so that you may have great endurance and patience,

and giving joyful thanks to the Father,

who has qualified you to share in the inheritance

of his holy people

in the kingdom of light.

Who could you pray these things for today?

Who could you ask to pray these things for you?

When might you set time aside to pray these things for yourself?
