Esther – Faith in Adversity (9 weeks)
With our Sunday mornings having a more topic based focus this term our Sunday evenings will be based in the book of Esther.
The Old Testament book of Esther is a very rich book of faith, salvation, judgement and God’s Sovereignty.
Set in the time when many of God’s people were in exile in Persia it tells the story of a threat to God’s people through Haman who is determined to be rid of God’s people. As the story unfolds we see God’s Sovereign hand at work (despite God not being mentioned in the book!) through the faithful efforts of Queen Esther and Mordecai.
As we look at these events we’ll be pointed to how faith in God’s Sovereignty helps us live with the adversity we too may experience in this life….and how it points to God’s greatest act of redemption in Christ.
Sexuality and the Gospel (3 weeks)
Towards the end of term we hope to have a series of 3 weeks looking at the topic ‘Sexuality and the gospel’.
During these evenings will be looking at how we should understand the sexual revolution our society has gone through in recent years and where it stems from both historically and theologically.
We will then look at how we are to respond to it with gospel lenses on, seeking to be those who love our neighbours and yet hold to the truth we believe the gospel proclaims.
