Family Friday - God Knows Everything

We return this Friday to an opportunity over the weekend to reflect upon something of God using Marty Machowski’s ‘The Ology’ as a guide.

This week we’re skipping on a few chapters to no.6…

“God Knows Everything”

Intro discussion

Try to think of questions that you definitely know the answer to.

(you may want to change these into questions if you have younger children)

e.g. I know how old I am.

I know I have a nose and two eyes.

I know what 2 + 2 is.

How do you know the answers to these questions?

- Birthdays help us remember our age

- a mirror or other people tell us we have a nose and eyes

- a teacher or a parent will tells us what 2 + 2 is

Do you know the answers to these questions?

What time will you go to sleep tonight? (be precise!)

How many hairs are on your head? (easier for some to answer than others!)

How many stars are there in the sky?

(Hopefully the answer is no…even though we might try to answer them correctly!)

What do these verses tell us about God?

(If you have more than one child you may get them to look up a different verse each and get them to find the answer)

“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” (Hebrews 4:13)

“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.” (Psalm 147:4)

“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.” (Psalm 139:1-4)

(Don't rush through these verses but ponder what each passage is saying. If you have younger children you may want to just focus on one of them)

Phrase to remember:

Question – How much does God know?

Children’s Answer - “God Knows Everything”

We know some things…but there is nothing that God doesn’t know.

Some things can surprise us…but nothing ever surprises God.

God didn't have to learn or get taught all he knows. He always knew it.

That's what makes God special.

It is great to know that we have a God like this.

It is even better to know that he can be our God by trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pray

Ask one of your children to thank God that he is All Knowing.

Follow that up with a prayer of thanks of your own.
