Family Friday - God is Everywhere!

We continue our Family Fridays by looking at ch 7 of ‘The Ology’…

“God is Everywhere”

Starter discussion

‘How many places can you be at once?’

‘Why can’t you be in more than one place?’

What does the Bible tell us about God?

Can you think of a man who thought he could run away from God?

Jonah

The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”

But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord. (Jonah 1:1-3)

Can you remember what happened to Jonah?

(See what they can remember. If they don’t know the story then you could tell the story. With older children you might even turn to Jonah 1 and show the things below from the passage.)

- got on a ship - Jonah 1:3

- God sent a storm – Jonah 1:4

- Jonah was thrown off the ship – Jonah 1:15

- God sent a huge fish to rescue Jonah – Jonah 1:17

What do you think Jonah learned about God?

You cannot run or hide from God! He always knows because he always sees because he is everywhere!

(See what they say before getting them to recite this phrase)

“God is everywhere!”

King David also knew this about God.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. (Psalm 139:7-8)

What does he tell us about God?

There is no where in heaven or earth that God isn’t there.

How should this help us?

What is scary about God being everywhere?

- sees everything we do

- nothing we do is a secret from him

What is great about God being everywhere?

(See what your children come up with before using the suggestions below as prompts)

- he is always near us wherever we are - we are never alone

- we can pray to him whenever we need to

- he already knows what we need before he prays because he is with us

Ultimately the great thing about God being everywhere is that despite seeing all we do he offers to forgive us.

Pray

Ask one of your children to thank God that he is everywhere.

You as a parent may want to follow that prayer by asking God to forgive us for the things we’ve done that he’s seen that have disappointed him.
