Easter Weekend Devotions (2)

“Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, (John 20:1)

Here's the second of three devotions for Easter Weekend.

Read John 20:1-10

There’s lots of running that first Easter Sunday morning! Mary Magdalene “came running to Simon Peter” and John (v2) to tell them that Jesus’ tomb is empty. So Peter and John ran to the tomb. Peter lost the race, but while John waited at the entrance, Peter rushed straight in when he got there (v6).

· What do they discover? What details are given?

· What is different and why between Jesus’ resurrection and Lazarus’ resurrection? (See John 11:43-44)

· What do you think the “other disciple” (John) believes? (v8)

Main Application:

Jesus’ tomb is empty apart from his grave clothes. His body has been raised and transformed into a new body: a resurrection body.

There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again And as He stands in victory Sin's curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ

Let’s pray:

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.” (Written later by Peter in 1 Peter 1:3-4)
